What we do

Every church faces two ways. It looks inwards to provide support, encouragement, pastoral care and a loving environment for those who are members. At the same time it looks out to reach the community with the message of Jesus Christ. St. Michael’s is a church which is engaging in both enterprises simultaneously.

Inward focus

We try to avoid meeting-itis which is a besetting sin for many churches. However, there is also a strong emphasis on being a family in St. Michael’s as well as on the need to be together for support and encouragement in the life of the church. Every Sunday in both the morning and the evening services we have a ‘family time’ when we can share personal and church news.

We also have a high view of prayer in the life of the church so in addition to our corporate intercessions at our main services, we produce an intercessor notice sheet which includes items for prayer and which is circulated amongst praying members of the congregation. There are two meetings for prayer each week on Wednesday morning at 7.15 a.m. and Friday evenings at 7.30 p.m.

The integration of every gift of every member of the congregation is also important to us, and so there are opportunities for the use of the creative arts in our services including dance, drama and music. Our worship group has a national reputation through their weekly ministry to the congregation, their recordings and our many broadcast services both on radio and TV.

Outward focus

A team of warm hearted people welcome each congregation as they arrive as an expression of our interest in every person who chooses to worship with us.

We invite people who are looking seriously at issues of personal faith to join us on the internationally known Alpha course [see link] which we run three times a year.

The St. Teilo Trust, an independent charity, was established some 10 years ago to support and resource evangelism in Wales. Together with offering financial support, the trust releases Stuart Bell as a non-salaried evangelist to work in parishes whenever and wherever invitations are given.

St. Michael’s has an extensive ministry in caring for the local community at times of great joy and sorrow. This includes provision of services for weddings, baptisms and funerals, as well as other civic events, which can be arranged by an initial contact with the church office on 01970 617184.
