» Music
It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night…’ Psalm 92: 1+2
Music Group
Worshipping God is central to our life at St Michael's. We combine new modern styles of worship with traditional styles and each age group in our church is represented in the leading of worship.
Our worship team consists of over 20 members, the majority of whom meet weekly as a cell group. We use this time to study the Bible, drink tea, worship and pray together. Cell group is a key part of our ministry, as we are constantly reminded to put our focus not merely on the music we play, but rather on the mandate to give God His worth and encourage the Church as a whole to do the same.
The team is made up of people both from the town and the university. Requirements for membership have remained constant and basic since the group’s formation in 1982: a genuine love for Jesus, and musical ability, whether it is in singing or playing a musical instrument.
Members of the worship team are involved in both the main services each Sunday, as well as in special events from time to time both at the church and away. We have taken part in television and radio broadcasts, and several members have helped to lead worship at Alpha courses run by the Church.
Several recordings have been made over the years by the St. Michael’s Worship group. The following albums can be purchased from the literature table or by post from the office:

Choir
Perhaps unusually for a renewed Anglican church, we have retained a strong choir which meets each Sunday morning to rehearse. Our choir takes an active part in at least one of the two main Sunday services each week. As well as helping to lead the hymns, during the year we regularly perform anthems and modern songs as an integral part of a Sunday service. At Christmas and at Easter, our choir plays a major role in the main celebration services.
Choir members are encouraged to combine a wholehearted desire to worship God in song with a commitment to ever improving musical excellence, both of which are hopefully enjoyed in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
