'Our aim is growth in the spiritual maturity of all who worship here and numerical growth through the winning of new people to Christ by the efforts of each member of the church.’

What it implies

Our mission statement is intended to work out in practise what we have committed ourselves to in our vision statement, ‘Recovering His Reputation’.

We see ourselves making the vision a reality by achieving growth.

Growth in spiritual depth

We are keen to see all our church members of whatever age and however long they have been disciples of Christ, growing in their relationship with him, and their understanding of him. To this end we encourage a daily personal devotional discipline of worship, prayer and Bible reading, together with a weekly participation in the corporate life of the church. Each member is asked to belong to a small home group of about 12 people where they can grow in their understanding of the faith, ask the questions they need to, pray for each other’s needs and experiment with spiritual gifts. In addition we expect to see our members worshipping regularly on a Sunday [twice where possible except during the more demanding seasons of life].

Mature Christians who are deeply committed to their spiritual family go a long way to recovering the reputation of Jesus. In a commitment-less generation, Christians have an opportunity to draw special attention to Jesus simply through their practical day to day discipleship.

Growth in numbers

When Jesus said, ‘I will build my church’, he was surely expecting that the numbers of his disciples would increase. This has happened in past generations in Wales, as it is currently happening in certain parts of the world. We are committed to numerical growth and attempt to bring in new people and win them for Christ, through the Alpha course, through special guest events, through a thriving social programme [including hill walking, bird watching, deep sea fishing etc] and through the individual and personal witness of the members of our congregation. We expect to see the church grow in numbers and it has done so: more than 5 fold in the last 30 years.

A large well attended congregation says something to a world which thinks that the Christian faith has been discredited and that it is no longer relevant to the life of people today. A full church helps to ‘recover His reputation’.
