Getting involved

Church membership

What is a church member? Is it someone who has their name on a membership list, or someone who contributes financially to an appeal for money, or someone who lives in the parish, or someone who has a relative buried in the churchyard, or someone who has been baptised and confirmed, or someone who comes to church?

We have a completely open membership policy and it works very simply. Those who come are members. If you want to be part of St. Michael’s Church, then come and join us and become part of what we are doing.

Involvement does not have to wait until people have been with us for many years. We have a deliberate policy of ensuring that there are no dynasties in our church, and that active involvement in the life of the church is not reserved for the privileged few. Membership of the church committee rotates every three years and we consciously invite newcomers to be involved.

There is constant need for help right across the church in a whole host of ministries, so if when you become part of something you like to get stuck in, then this is the place to be. We recognise the giftings we received at birth, the giftings we have acquired through our upbringing, training and education, and the giftings we have received from the Holy Spirit. All of those we want to see released within the life of the church.

Each year when we have our Review and Preview, looking back at the year which has passed and forward to the year which is to come, we have to thank some 200 people or so who have been practically involved in making St. Michael’s happen from year to year. There is a team for everything and you’ll be welcome to come and join in.
